Information
Clwyd is a preserved county of Wales, situated in the north-east, bordering England with Cheshire to its east, Shropshire to the south-east, and the Welsh counties of Gwynedd to its immediate west and Powys to the south. Local government was transferred to the new principal areas of Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham in 1996.
The east of the county is fairly urbanised, particularly areas such as Wrexham, Deeside and the commuter settlements close to Chester. The west of the county however is more rural, with Snowdonia National Park in eastern areas of Conwy. Large coastal settlements include Rhyl and Prestatyn in Denbighshire.
Things to do
Llandudno is a beautiful Victorian seaside resort at the foot of Great Orme. There is plenty to do here from; Riding Britain's longest cable car or visiting 4000 year old mines, maybe even visit the mountain zoo, if you just need to relax Have award-winning Victorian tea or stroll along the beach.
There's not much to do at Rhyl and Prestatyn beach resorts, unless you count all the watersports, fairgrounds, donkey rides, or the indoor beaches, and the fantastic aquarium, that's it. But if all that is not for you, you could always just laze around on the beach.
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is the world's tallest canal boat crossing and recently became Wales' newest World Heritage Site it is just one of many water features in the North Wales Borderlands.
