Information
Gwynedd is an area in north-west Wales, named after the old Kingdom of Gwynedd. Geographical it is the second biggest in terms of area as a local government area but is also one of the most sparsely populated. A large proportion of the population is Welsh-speaking.

Gwynedd is the home to Snowdonia National Park, this was established in 1951 as the third National Park in Britain, following the Peak District and the Lake District. It covers 827 square miles, and has 37 miles (60 km) of coastline.

The Park's entire coastline which runs from the Llyn Peninsula down the mid-Wales coast is a Special Area of Conservation, the mid-Wales coast contains valuable sand dune systems.

Things to do
The prime destination for many Walkers is Llyn and the Snowdonia National Park, with Snowdon itself, at 3,560 feet (1,085m) a highlight, the most popular routes to the summit being the Llanberis Path, other popular walking areas include the Llyn Coastal Path and the new Wales Coast Path.

The Llyn Coastal Path extends from Caernarfon along the north coast of Llyn to Uwchmynydd and then follows the south coast to Porthmadog it is 148km or 91 miles in length.

If the mountains are not your thing then almost 200 miles of seashore, wooded estuaries and big beaches, wild western cliffs and sheltered harbours, plus sandy resorts and secluded bays will keep the sea and beach lovers happy.
